The current version of BS7799-2 is currently being revised. This work is expected to be completed later this year (2005).
It is, however, simultanteously being fast tracked through ISO (ISO/IEC JTC1/SC27) and will ultimately be published as ISO 27001 (a specification for ISMS and the foundation for third party audit and certification).
In additon, it is being re-organized, or "harmonized" to be compatible with other management standards (such as those within the ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 series).
As ISO 17799 is expected to be renamed as ISO 27002 at some stage in the future, an ISO 27000 series of publications is likely to emerge: again, following the precedents of ISO 14000 and ISO 9000.
The final publication date for ISO 27001 has not yet been set.
