The following questions were presented:
What is the typical life cycle of standards like this? Basically, how often are they revised and re-published?
International standards undergo a periodic review conducted by the responsible international committee every five years. This includes input from the UK.
As a result of the review, one of the following options for the standard is selected to determine its status:
_ Confirmed without change
_ Confirmed after minor change
_ Revised (significant changes)
_ Declared obsolescent
British standards undergo a similar process whereby the responsible BSI committee undertakes a periodic review of the standard to determine its currency, accuracy and relevance to the purpose for which it was created.
